Staying At The Most Beautiful Beach In Australia

From secluded bays to long stretches of pristine white sand framed by cliffs Kangaroo Island has a huge collection of beaches. At Vivonne Bay, this piece of paradise harbors the once proclaimed most beautiful beach in Australia according to a study from the University of Sydney. This is quite a claim when you consider that the country has over 10,000! And iPhoneography Oz has discovered a place to admire this spectacular beach with turquoise waters from every morning: Koopalanda Dreaming. Along with another three, this villa is located directly above the bay. It is large enough to accommodate up to six people and has a fully equipped kitchen. You can even bake your own bread, a nice touch from the owners! In this picturesque place hidden away from civilization, there is limited telephone network and internet reception but there is satellite TV, which is very valuable in bad weather! Do not forget to turn the spotlight on after sunset for a view of the wallabies at the back of the house.

Must-See Natural Wonders On Kangaroo Island

There is probably no place in Australia, other than Kangaroo Island, where you can get so close to wildlife in their natural environment. More than a third of the island is protected, allowing visitors access to a world-class natural experience. It is possible to travel the island with your own vehicle or by joining a guided tour. Here are 3 Must-See Natural Wonders on Kangaroo Island:
  • Flinders Chase National Park: this huge park of 33,000 hectares is located in the far west of the island. Do not miss the two rock formations of Remarkable Rocks and Admirable Arch where seals basking in the sun abound. With its wildlife and its many hiking trails, the park is the perfect destination for nature lovers. During our visit we were lucky enough to see a whale breaching over a dozen times!
  • Kelly Hill Conservation Park: this park hosts a beautiful cave system discovered in 1881. The caves are accessible via guided tours throughout the day. Inside, they are lit using fibre-optic white light technology so you can admire the stunning colors of the walls. For an experience perhaps even more memorable, book an Adventure Caving Tour.
  • Seal Bay: this beach hosts one of the largest colonies of sea lions in Australia. Several tour options are available. Accompanied by a guide, it is possible to walk on the beach and get very close to the animals. It is impossible to remain indifferent to the charm of these adorable little creatures. An experience that will not be forgotten anytime soon!

Where To See Wildlife On Kangaroo Island?

We have been told that Kangaroo Island was perhaps one of the most incredible places in the world to see wildlife in its natural environment. Since our arrival, except a few wallabies in Penneshaw, we have not seen that much. Feeling a little disheartened, we joined Kangaroo Island Wilderness Tours for a full day guided tour of the island. Our opinion was instantly changed: glossy black cockatoos, echidnas, wedge-tailed eagles and wallabies were just a start. Indeed, we can confirm, Kangaroo Island is home to an abundance of accessible wildlife. For the first time since the birth of iPhoneography Oz, we also spotted koalas in the wild. In Lathami Conservation Park on the north coast, we were able to get very close to wild kangaroos with some females nursing their joey in their pouch. Also a first! Our guide, a native of the island, masters her subject and makes the experience unforgettable. During our visit we also went to the dunes of Little Sahara in Vivonne Bay and the Parndana Wildlife Park. The tour, which runs from 9am to 6pm, may seem long at first, but rest assured, Kangaroo Island offers such a variety of incredible landscapes that you never notice the time passing. You are amazed and you want more! Note that a hearty lunch is included. Kangaroo Island Wilderness Tours is an excellent opportunity not to miss the richness of Kangaroo Island!

Why Visit Kangaroo Island?

Kangaroo Island, situated off the Fleurieu Peninsula, is not to be missed. Tourist guides advise a minimum of two days to visit it. We recommend you spend a week there. This island, the third largest in Australia, is perhaps one of the most incredible places in the world to see wildlife in its natural environment. Kangaroo Island also offers breathtaking scenery. Along its shores, you can access deserted beaches that stretch for miles. Swimmers, surfers and fishermen... there is something here for everyone. All are not listed in guidebooks, but since we like to walk off the beaten tracks at iPhoneography Oz, we reveal one of the best kept secrets of the island: Red Banks. This stretch of colorful cliffs, sheltered from tourists is located just a few minutes north of American River. The path to the bay below the cliffs is not easy to find. Strolling along the beach just before sunset is an unique experience! This is a dream location for photographers. And for us it is simply the most beautiful beach in Australia (at least from what we have seen since the beginning of this project).
